Pathways & Systems

Bridges equips health and care practitioners with tools to make tangible changes to the lives of people living with long term conditions, and the experience of the people working with them. This has been shown to have several key positive effects on services.

We have a wealth of evidence from extensive evaluations, research projects, Quality Improvement Projects and publications that demonstrates our impact in these areas.

We know that Bridges improves efficiencies in services, by getting to the heart of what matters most to patients, and supporting practitioners to build more meaningful therapeutic relationships more quickly.

  • Evidence shows more compliments, fewer complaints and less reliance on services
  • In Paediatrics services in Northern Ireland, Bridges helped the waiting list to drop from 3 months to 1 month.
  • In MSK, assessment to treatment ratios dropped from 1:6 to 1:3.
  • Staff consistently feed back that patients feel more in control and able to let go, and practitioners also are able to release patients more quickly from case-loads.
  • The LISTEN Trial found that this way of working is cost-effective, and reduces societal costs.
The support to myself as a leader and the sustainability resources is outstanding and makes the likelihood of sustained changes so much more achievable. Bridges is an essential part of my toolkit and a cornerstone of my practice.
Allied Health Professions Consultant in Stroke, Aneurin Bevan Health Board
It gives me more time. You can get to the point quicker so you have more time in your clinic. Sometimes I’ve gone over the allotted time – so I might have spent 40 minutes instead of half an hour, but I’ve been able to get to the point just with one treatment.

The self-management tools explored are transferable across a range of settings in life – relevant not just to clinical practice as health care professionals to support patient self-management, but also as a line manager and clinical lead supporting clinicians’ self-management in their professional and personal goals.
